Sourcing our food responsibly
Our fish and seafood products are an iconic part of our brand, which is why we want to lead by example and source fish responsibly. All of our wild-caught fish can be directly traced back to when and where it was captured. We never accept any fish that is illegal, unreported, unregulated, or from overfished stocks.
We use the UN Food Agriculture Organization (FAO) Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries as a guide on how to source our fish responsibly. We collaborate with different fishery management organisations and policymakers to adopt this policy, as well as encouraging them to participate in certification schemes.
We meet all national and EU regulatory standards for raising and processing of meat products.
Building the foundations for best in class agriculture
We LOVE vegetables. Ours are frozen, fresh, natural, nutritious – and absolutely delicious. As the leading producer of frozen vegetables we realise our responsibility to the planet, and we aim to lead the way on social, health, and environmental issues. We’ve been growing vegetables using sustainable practices for decades, in some areas working with 3-4 generations of farmers, and we’re bringing our experience with us into the future.
We are currently rolling out global sustainable agriculture standards across all local markets to make sure that we provide all consumers with the best quality and best tasting produce.
Preparing our food responsibly
We make sure that our food is frozen within hours to lock in freshness and nutrition. We also aim to reduce energy during the production and freezing process, as well as reducing water consumption.
When developing our recipes we make the most of our raw materials and ingredients. We spend time creating easy-to-follow cooking instructions, as well as ensuring that our labelling meets the most up-to-date regulations. We go even further, where possible, to help our consumers make informed food choices. We also work to reduce the environmental impact of packaging through better design and optimised use.
Respecting human rights
We want to make sure that everyone in our supply chain is fairly treated, so we work hard to implement strict ethical policies and procedures. We also offer appropriate internal training to secure awareness and understanding.
We are committed to ethical trading and social compliance, and we base our policy on the principles of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), as well as adherence to national labour regulations. This includes working hours, health and safety, freedom of association, and fair wages.
We require our suppliers to sign up to the Nomad Foods Europe's Supplier Code of Conduct, as well as registering with SEDEX (the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange): a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving responsible and ethical business practices in global supply chains.
We believe external third-party certifications play a role in driving progress and helping consumers to make sustainable choices. We see the value and credibility of independent certification schemes.

Marine Stewardship Council – setting the standard for sustainable fishing
Aquaculture Stewardship Council – setting strict requirements for responsible aquaculture encouraging seafood producers to minimise the key environmental and social impacts of aquaculture
Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform – created by the food industry to communicate and to actively support the development of sustainable agriculture
Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil – promoting the growth and use of sustainable oil palm products through credible global standards and engagement of stakeholders

Keeping a close eye on aquaculture
Aligning with ASC, we are developing a best-in-class approach to aquaculture because we believe in a future where our fish and seafood is independently certified and responsibly sourced.
By working on new certifications, fishery retention projects, and advertising campaigns we continue to make the voice of the ocean heard. We also define our own strict policies for our suppliers to work by.
